Samsung Galaxy FIT S5670 – Steps to Install Beta 3 ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware

As promised, we are here with your request for an Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3. Please note that this update of Cyanogen Mod 9 ropes in the goodness of ICS Android 4.0. In a very unfortunate event, Samsung Electronics has refused to come up with any sort of Value update or a compatible ICS build for Galaxy FIT, but all thanks to Cyanogen Mod team who are on their way of building a stable ICS version. This update is not a stable release yet and is still in the beta stage, over the coming few days we will be checking out more stable firmwares.

Essential pre Requisites:

• Enable USB Debugging in your device from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked in your phone.
• Backup all the data present in your phone so as to ensure that the just in case if the data gets erased or corrupted, the same can be restored easily with the help of below mentioned steps.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

• Minimum charge left in the device should be 60% so as to ensure that the device doesn’t get turned Off in the process of firmware update.
• Uninstall all the security as well as antivirus suites installed in your computer so as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.

So assuming that you have followed all the instructions mentioned above, you can now proceed to the next page where we will check on how to apply this Cyanogen Mod 9 firmware in your phone.
Procedure to Update Galaxy FIT S5670 with ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware:
Before proceeding, you need to Root and Install Custom Recovery Image in  Samsung Galaxy FIT S5670 as without which you cannot apply this update of Cyanogen Mod 9 a.k.a ICS Android 4.0 firmware.

• First up you need to download the Cyanogen MOD 9 package from here to your computer. Once you are done with it, connect the phone to the computer with the help of USB cable which you got at the time of purchase.
• Now, copy the downloaded zip file to your device’s SD Card and disconnect the phone from your computer to turn Off your phone for entering the device in the recovery mode.
• The recovery mode can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device.

• In the recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware Zip file which you have placed in your phone.
• It will take around 10 minutes for the whole process of update to get completed. Once the update process is done, the device will be landing up in the recovery mode. Now, select “++++ Go Back ++++” > “reboot system now” so that the device is re booted successfully.

Tip: Restore all the data which you have taken the backup before and also ensure that you have also restored the APN settings which are responsible for accessing the internet. If the device enters in the boot loop mode then you need to again apply the firmware by following the above steps.

So as soon as the firmware I updated successfully, the device will be rebooted and there you go you have now successfully updated the latest version of ICS Android 4.0 in the form of Cyanogen Mod 9 update. Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 users get their February delight as an all new version of ICS flavored based on stock firmware update has arrived and this time its dubbed as XXLPB firmware it was last time many users reported issues like force close errors but this version of firmware takes care of most of the issues. This firmware ropes in some of the minor enhancements along with the performance fixes which we will be checking in detail over the due course of this article. Please note that this is not an Official firmware version released by Samsung Electronics and also we don’t have an exact ETA on by when there will be an official update of ICS Android 4.0.3.
Note: This update is not for the users of I9100G, the model number should be I9100 only which you can find by dialing *#1234# in your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100.

Rooting Information:

• For updating with this firmware, there is no compulsion that you need to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100,
• Applying this firmware then it doesn’t mean that the phone is rooted,
• Just in case if your S2 is already rooted, then after applying with this update the rooting access will be revoked,

Before proceeding to the list of instructions to update, you need to follow the List of Pre Requisites which you need to follow to update the same.
Procedure to Update Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with ICS Android 4.0.3 XXLPB Firmware:

• Download XXLPB Android 4.0.3 Firmware Zip from here along with PIT file in your computer. Once you extract the XXLPB Firmware zip file, you will get four files.

• After this, you need to enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” and tick the option of USB Debugging.

• Open Odin in your computer and turn Off your phone so that you can turn ON your phone in the download mode.
• The download mode can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button after which a green robot will indicate the Download Mode.

Danger: If the phone doesn’t enter into the download mode then you need to try again as without download mode, you cannot proceed without entering the phone in the download mode.

• Once the device is turned ON in the download mode, connect the phone to the computer while keeping the Odin opened. Within a minute after connecting the phone with computer, the ID: COM section in odin will turn yellow which means that all the drivers are updated successfully and you are ready to proceed to next step.

Note: Please note that if the ID : COM doesn’t turn yellow then install Samsung USB Drivers, .net framework and also you need to update the KIES with the latest version so that the missing drivers are installed.

• Now, in Odin you need to click on the below mentioned tabs and choose the corresponding files from the extracted files.

• After this, you need to click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update and once the firmware gets updated successfully the device will be restarted automatically.
• Once the device gets rebooted, then remove the connected USB cable and turn Off the phone to enter the device in the recovery mode.

• The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. In the recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys.

To check whether the firmware has been successfully updated or not, you can check the same from the path “Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version” where you will find the version of XXLPB Android 4.0.3 firmware. If there is any other version then do let us know in the comments section below.

• Next up remove the SIM card as well as the external SD cards if any in your phone, just to make sure that in an unlikely event the data in it doesn’t get corrupted,
• Additionally, ensure that your phone has at least more than 50% of battery power left, this is just an advisory which if followed then you will not experience any difficulties as while updation of the device the battery consumption is at a maximum,
• Last but not the least ensure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy Fit S 5670 and not any other phone as if you proceed installing any other phone then there is a high possibility that you will brick your phone after which your phone will become un usable. Procedure to install Gingerbread 2.3.4 in Samsung GALAXY FIT:

• Download the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update package for Samsung GALAXY FIT in your computer from here and as soon as you download it you will have to unzip to folder to get the files like Boot, CODE, Modem, CSC along with the Odin Multi uploader v 4.38. Please note that even if a single file is missing then it means that the files have not been downloaded properly and again you need to download them.

• So, after downloading and in the extraction process if it prompts you to enter the password at any point of time then you will have to enter the password as “androidadvices.com” .

• After this, just open the “Odin Multi uploader” file from the extracted folder and then you will have to now turn the phone Off as you will have to turn your phone ON in the download mode.

• Please note that the download mode can be entered by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. Now, if you have successfully entered into the download mode then you will see a green screen which is shown below. Please note that if the device boots in the normal mode with the home screen then retry the process and if despite retrying you are unable to get into download mode then you will have to fix the download mode error for your phone.

• Now, as soon as you get into the download mode, you will have to connect the Galaxy FIT S 5670 to the computer with the help of USB cable while Odin opened in the desktop. As soon as you connect the phone, you will see that first ID:COM box as shown below will turn yellow and in the message box you will see that it will show ADDED as shown in the below snapshot and after that you will have to add the files respectively as shown below,

• As soon as you feed in the files, you will have to double check the same and then you will have to proceed and click on the “Start” option to start the firmware update process. After clicking on the start, you will see that the firmware will be installed in your phone within a time of not more than 5 minutes.

• After the Galaxy FIT reboots, you will have see the home screen and then choose the options accordingly and then after you see the home screen and after the completion of Media scanning, you will have to go in the recovery mode wherein you will have to delete the cache memory so that all unwanted files are removed if there are any left in the phone. That’s it you have now successfully flashed your phone with the latestAndroid 2.3.4 update.

For checking on which firmware you are currently on, you will have to go to the Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OSwhere it will show 2.3.4.
